Wat vind jij de meest iconische Supra?

Post by Casper »

Sriyantha Weerasuria (S.W.)

- 9 features in tijdschriften
- 4 cover features
- 3 DVD’s
- 2 Videobanden

[BBvideo 560,340]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=45DqmxmFxIE[/BBvideo]

Bryce Danna

[BBvideo 560,340]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qnqq--I7Wso[/BBvideo]

- Nick Stonawski 2JZUL8R
- Ryan Woon
- Mark Tozer
- Vinny Ten
- Saad Saad
- Mike Urbano (Pioneer MKIII)
- Marko Djuric (Super sleeper)
- The Stockholm Supra
- The Walser Supra

( https://youtu.be/in2hkSCqNKk?t=970" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; )
- De stockholm supra van Mr. X.

Craig Liebermann! Helemaal vergeten!

Leuke extra informatie imo.

KenHenderson wrote:MANI IS BACK (!) AND COMING TO VEGAS!

Okay class, today’s lesson is the continuation of our “Re-introduction of SUPRA OGs” Series. First, came the KING, Mark Tozer of SupraStore, title sponsor of the PACNW Supra Nationals and SIV2015 Scenic Drive sponsor (more about this in an upcoming post). Second, came the one and only Saad N. Saad, King of the Southwest. Nothing more need to be said about this other than, if want more, go here: http://www.supraforums.com/forum/showth ... upraforums! Next, we have from the Netherlands that bad ass Supra mad scientist, Arnout, he of long rod, stroker, the 2JZ-GTE girdle, cast manifold fame (there is a lot more where that came from…trust me). To learn more about Arnout, go here: http://www.supraforums.com/forum/showth ... eal-of-him

NNNEEEXXXTTT....for today’s lesson we have the reintroduction of Mani Jayasinghe, better known as just “Mani” if you are into Supras, road racing and motorcyles. Thanks to the #1 Hardtopper and SF Administrator, Steve Theodore, Mani has been unbanned and rescued from Supra Purgatory where he’s resided the last 6-years or so. This is fantastic news, class, so listen up. Whenever you engage in deep conversation about Supra road racing, a few names about the very best road racers will always crop up: Andi Baritchi, SW, Greg Caloudas and Mani. This isn’t to say there are not other top notch MKIV Supra road racers still plying their trade on tracks across America, but believe me when I say Mani was the baddest of the bad when Supras WERE the flavor of the month and routinely attracted the best of the best in terms of drivers and cars.

Since Mani has been gone for so long, although joining SF in 2001, let me tell you a little bit about this road racing wunderkind so you can pass on some of this Supra lore to current and future Supra owners. It’s a great story, so let’s get this party started. As with many, Mani’s Supra experience started in 1992 with the MKIII. Although red in color, Mani kept the car relatively stock; that is, of course, until he went for his first ride in a MKIV Supra turbo in 1995. Yep, you guessed it, a MKIV Supra turbo, red, of course, entered the Jayasinghe household. According to Mani, he kept things relatively stock, drove around with a quiet GReddy exhaust and all was well until he met GUILLY (!) for the first time in his BPU Supra (Class, if you follow your lesson plans diligently, you will find various references to Guilly who led many conservative, straight-laced, stay-between-the-lines car owners to wanton, take no prisoners, frothing at the mouth speed freaks). Yeah, Mani fell hard for Guilly’s BPU rocket, so you know where this story is headed.

While Mani was busy doing all the BPU plusses to his car, in late 1997, he went for another ride in another friend’s car. The difference was, this friend had an HKS TO4R under hood and Mani just about lost his mind. Yeah, the barbarians were at the gate and threatening to burn the place down if Mani didn’t set about the task of going APU. Being a lover, not a fighter, Mani was only too happy to oblige. Enter 1998 and an RPS, equal-length, long-tube manfold and Mark Tozer (that guy again). AZ hellion that he had become, along with Saad and Guilly, Tozer advised Mani to go with a P trim T66 turbo for how Mani proposed to drive and race this car. Leaving nothing to chance, Mani built his own fuel system and installed a 250-shot nitrous system for good measure. Mind you, this was in 1998, the LAST year of the Supra being imported into the states and the FIRST year the MKIV Supra aftermarket really began to take off. Truly ironic when you think about it.

Although Mani did not participate much in drag racing, there were many track days and other organized events. Back in the day when import magazines were dominant, Turbo, Sport Compact Car (SCC) and European Car, in particular, routinely sponsored tire tests, dyno comparisons, time attack-style events, exhaust shoot outs and intake manifold tests among other go fast competitions. One of the highest profile, and most popular, events was SCC’s Ultimate Street Car Competition. This was an event that was set up to test the best street cars in America and designate the winner as the Ultimate Street Car. Mani carried the flag for the Supra world in the inaugural event and, after winning various performance components of the event, took a very close second place after losing out in the “show” part of the event.

Losing points in the “show” category didn’t sit well and Mani sought to remedy this “shortcoming” by installing the first iteration of the C-West body kit for the MKIV Supra. The second running of the USCC was significantly more ambitious than the first year. This event lasted three days and, among other things, tested drivability, fuel economy, acceleration, handling, braking, etc. Once again Mani took an excruciatingly close second place to the winner. What to do?

Amongst various tweaks to the car to prepare for the 3rd USCC, off came the C-West body kit and on went the Do-Luck Late Model body kit. By now, the USCC had evolved from true street cars like Mani’s to full on race-prepared Viper ACRs and other competition machines. Another three day gauntlet of tests played out and, you guessed it, our fearless warrior finished another very close second place to the ultimate winner. Having followed these competitions first hand, I can tell you the summaries here do not, in any way, give the reader a real sense of the effort put forth by Mani, the obstacles and setbacks overcome and how, in spite of what I still consider subjective criteria and judging, he and his red rocket performed admirably against some very tough odds.

Mani, ultimately, sold his Supra, so what then and now? Well, if you know Mani, you know that he is as bad ass on two wheels as he is on four. For about three years, Mani competed on the race circuit with a 2007 Honda CBR 1000RR. After deciding to begin competing with a real race car, in 2011 Mani began racing in the SCCA P2 class with a Stodacher SO4 full downforce open cockpit car, capable of 3.5Gs in corners. This P2 class car was supplemented by a Scion FR-S in 2013, built for track day duties and practice for SCCA competition. Going this route resulted in over 60 track days a year for 2013 and 2014.

Being a one-time Supra owner, however, leaves a bit of an empty feeling no matter the vehicles it is replaced with. While Mani hasn’t satisfied his search for another MKIV Supra (as a 19-year employee of Toyota and waiting expectantly for the FT-1, this is understandable), Mani IS COMING TO SIV2015 with something special. Not straying too far from his Toyota DNA, Mani got his hands on a Lexus IS-F. This will not be your father’s, or Ken Henderson’s, IS-F, and the best part about it is that we will all get to see this car at SIV2015. What makes Mani’s IS-F so special? Well, I’m glad you asked that question :).

In his own words, Mani said, “Having owned a Supra for so long, I needed something that is unique and rare”. While this car will not have the get-out-of-jail free APU program of his old Supra, this car WILL come to a gunfight with more than a knife. To wit: This IS-F is being built as a CCS-P car (Competition Club Sport-Production) race vehicle and will be a version of the CCS-R. This means the car will be the Stage 3 iteration of the CCS-P, which is the highest available stage for the car. In addition to the bad ass driver mod, the car will have the following (All Japan TRD parts):

• Forged magnesium wheels
• Titanium exhaust
• Two-way LSD
• Three-way adjustable coilovers with remote reservoir
• Full carbon CCS-P hood
• Full carbon CCS-P wing
• TRD/Yamaha body dampers
• Carbon front spats
• Carbon rear diffuser
• Full custom paint

Yeah, you get the picture. This car will be a super bad IS-F. Along with 200+ Supras AND the FT-1, plus crazy Supra OGs all coming home at the same time, you know this is the SIV event you will not want to miss.

So, you’ve read this far and I know those of you with ADD are cursing me to hell and back. Please don’t hurt me. I’ll reward you with some pics:

Again, in Mani’s own words: “The IS-F’s first outing will be Vegas this year. I look forward to catching up with all of you old timers and talk cars again. Its’s good to be back on Supraforums after a 6-year or so hiatus”.
Welcome back, Mani! You’ve been SORELY missed.

http://www.speedhunters.com/2014/11/end ... eet-supra/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
