WTB: 280KM/h MK3 speedometer

Post by 004 »

In Canada here we got 240km/h speedometers...

it would be neat to have the higher European 280km/h speedometer..

for shipping purposes I don't think I will want the entire cluster, but rather just the guage...

let me know via PM.... looking for shipping to Cambridge Ontario Canada...

You can get those in the states. Duel Km and MPH. but you must NOT remove the pointers when changing the faces, other wise it is an absolute bitc* to reset them. also with a 280 klicks face, you may have to change the speedo gear. If you search threads on the English Site http://www.mkiiisupra.net" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; you should find a load of threads concerning just this. Ian

Hi 004 and welcome!

Guys, he pmm'ed me on supramania about the speedo and I told him we could probably get him an entire cluster or just the gauge dials (stock).
I really don't know if or how to change the dial indiactor scale when changing the dial faces from 240 to 280 km/h. Is it even necessary ?

Maybe if you would want just the dials in KM/H and also some nice ajustments then you could look at this german shop:
http://www.tacho-cartuning.de/home1.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

In the gallery under "eingebauw" (which means that it's a puicture of an in-car example) you can see the MKIII supra example.
If they won't ship to Canada we can have them ship it to the Netherlands and I (or another shoarmateam member) will ship it your way.

004, You can trust "toyota87" and also "antigram" (or me) when it comes to shipping to Canada, they're good guys.

see you around!

current car; 1987 turbo targa 5speed car, tems etc....

I will take a closer look at mine today....

really USA got the 280 and canada got the 240km/h speedo?

I don't really care if I lose MPH conversion.... I can do the math on the fly...

I don't know about USA cars. We only have EURO cars here.
USA = Miles
Europe = Kilometres

We got the 280km gauge. usa, I don't know.

What I meant was when you swap your own 240 gauge for the 280 gauge, maybe you need to ajust the needle and how much/far it moves. So it could be you'd need some ajustment in the speedo cable going to your cluster?

My combination speedometer shows a max speed of 240km/h (and also has mp/h)

it has the parking brake light and seatbelt light included in the speedometer...

I would like to find a complete speedometer gauge with a max speed of 280km/h (unless a 320km/h was also available unlikely for mk3)
hopefully with parking light/seatbelt light...

also; your euro gauge clusters --- what does the stock boost gauge max at? USDM 7M-GTE = 4 mm/hg whereas the JDM 1jz-GTE cluster is 6mm/hg
it is my understanding that stock boost for a 1JZ will be higher than the 7MGTE guage reads...

photo's;

USDM/Canadian cluster (1987);

JDM/right hand drive cluster (92)

^I have removed the boost gauge to evaluate moving it into the left hand drive, maybe the temp too since they are angled to fit in 1 spot..

Where my project currently sits; everything is refurbished/ready to install, still have wiring to consider and AVCR

off topic;
so it appears as though I have succeeded in transferring the 7000rpm redline tach into the left hand drive cluster---
jap parts - motor and gauge face // canadian parts - plastic stand and pre89 needle

tomorrow I will grab my drill/wire kit and stick the Japanese boost guage & temp guage into the left hand drive cluster...

on topic;
but hopefully the pictures help the explanation..

looking for that higher speed speedometer..... toyota87 ???
